Marto, Riesling 2023
Martin Wörner's vines have been in the family for three generations, adapting throughout each decade. In the 1980s, Martin's father shifted to fruit wine production as the popularity of German wines decreased overall thanks to an over-saturated market and various scandals. After studying viticulture and interning at multiple wineries, Martin restarted winemaking at the family estate. Today, alongside his partner Alanna, Marto cultivates numerous indigenous varietals across 3 hectares of sandstone-rich terroir in Flonheim. Riesling 2023 is 100% Riesling from a singular plot at 330 metres elevation. Grapes were harvested relatively late after a slow ripening period and direct-pressed. Clean and fresh palette with a nose of sun-kissed yellow apples. Low in acidity and rich in orchard fruit notes like Golden Delicious apples and nashi pear. Riesling 2023 would pair well with huraideu-fried chicken.
