Gazzetta, Bianco Susanna 2024

Nestled in the hills above Bolsena in Northern Lazio is where Trish and the Gazzetta vineyards can be found. The area is found at a crossroads between the Mediterranean Sea, Apennine Mountains and one of the largest volcanic lakes in Europe. The influence of each is integral to forming this regions unique microclimate, which has a profound effect on the vineyards. The hot climate is regulated by equally unique airflow over the land formed by the warming and cooling of mountain and ocean breezes. Trish, alongside her partner Piero, tend to approximately 2 hectares just outside of Bolsena as well as olive, fig, cherry and pear trees and some more remote parcels further down the slope. Grapes are grown and harvested in harmony with the local biodiversity, and aged in variety of vessels before bottling with zero additives. Bianco Susanna 2024 is a blend of late harvest Trebbiano, Procanico and Ansonica from 40 year old vines in the Bolsena plots. Grapes are macerated on the skins for four days, then fermented in open vats for a couple of months after pressing. Full and fruity flavours of apricot, orange blossom and pineapple are present in a gentle sense, with a light-medium and milky body and super soft tannins. Bianco Susanna 2024 would pair well with Nasi Lemak.
