Domaine Geschickt, Gewürztraminer Oxydatif 2016

Working biodynamically since 1998, this family-owned domaine has been run by Aurelie Fayolle and Arnaud Geschickt for the past 10 years. Found across 4 hectares in Ammerschwihr, the team work symbiotically with the environment, planting trees to increase ecological diversity and working the land with Iris, their mare. 100% Gewürztraminer from the limestone-rich Purberg plots. Direct-pressed and aged in used barrels for nine years, during which time 1/4 of the liquid was lost to evaporation. This is a very drinkable oxidative wine, with a warming nose of fig and baked pears. Nutty flavours of hazelnut, caramel and golden syrup cake with a structured profile. Very reminiscent of a sous-voile Jura wine! Gewürztraminer Oxydatif 2016 would pair well with miso glazed onions and game birds.
