Jura-born Amelie and Sebastian Violet acquired a tiny parcel just outside Arbois in 2011 with the intention of making small-batch wines to enjoy among themselves and friends and family. In 2013 they began to sell their wine to a lucky few, continuing to farm just over one hectare entirely by hand. The biodiversity of the vineyard is promoted through gentle working of the soil, a practise which translates through to their cellar which adjoins their home. Vinifaction takes place without filtration, fining, temperature control or additives. Méli-Mélo is a field blend of 6-7 native grapes - everything they harvested in 2022 from parcels with varying terroirs. Destemmed Ploussard, Pinot Noir, Savagnin, Chardonnay, Trousseau, Gamay and ancient varieties are infused for three months in a mix of direct-press juice from Chardonnay, Trousseau, Savagnin and Gamay. This is then pressed together and rested for a year. You get the full expression of Jura in this wine, a nose reminiscent of earth or a leather jacket recently rained upon meets effervescent notes of sour red berries, slate and cherries. Méli-Mélo 2022 would pair well with crispy pork belly and a berry reduction.
