Ajola, Rosso Picnic 2022

Jacopo Battista of Azienda Ajola works to maintain the seventy five year-old vines of his 3.5 hectare estate in Orvieto, which intersects the boundaries of Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. His wines are beautiful representations of the volcanic terroir, which were laid during the formation of the Apennines, as well as the vineyards harmonious relationship with nature. Rosso Picnic 2022 consists of Ciliegiolo, Aleatico, Sangiovese and Merlot from old vines planted on sandy loam soils. A short skin maceration of a week before ageing in stainless steel. A light, bright and floral red with sharp notes of rhubarb and cherry, blood orange and sage. Rosso Picnic 2022 would pair well with crusty bread and butter with slices of Comté (preferably at a picnic).
